Guest Article by Bhavesh
Hello readers,
my name is Bhavesh Bellara from Just Don’t Read and I am very excited to write a guest for SarahTalksFilm. When I was asked to write a review for a movie that I liked, I was pretty confused which one to choose, until I watched Mowgli a couple of days back.
I know everyone knows about this extremely famous fictional character, but still, I would give an overview about who he is. Mowgli, an orphaned child who was found by Bagheera (voiced by Christian Bale) and later raised by a pack of wolves in the jungle, now faces a dangerous enemy in Shere Khan the tiger(voiced by Benedict Cumberbatch).
Unlike ‘The Jungle Book’, which was released in 2016, this movie takes us to a greater depth about Mowgli’s life and upbringing. The film revolves around the idea of “Not quite awolf, not quite a man”, which compels the young jungle kid to decide if he really belongs to the jungle.

Over the course of the movie, Mowgli found many unexpected alliances including the one in the form of Kaa the python (voiced by Cate Blanchett). One aspect which the earlier films hadn’t explored was how Mowgli would survive within the manvillage. This has been shown explicitly in this movie and leaves little to the imagination.

In the entire movie, my favorite character has to undoubtedly be Bhoot an albino wolf cub. He takes it upon himself to befriend Mowgli and he was the only one who trusted him always.
After a run-in with Shere Khan, an irritated Mowgli lashes out at Bhoot. He screams at the poor cub that he’s not special and was born “wrong.” By now the most emotional part of the movie, Bhoot dashes off, never to see Mowgli again. But Mowgli sees Bhoot again, although not in a way he or anyone in the audience would have liked to.
However, the film involves a very emotional scene involving ‘Bhoot’ which is bound to bring a tear to your eye. Ultimately this cheerful, lovable and kid-like innocent at heart wolf cub is the ultimate reason why Mowgli returns to the jungle.
Final Rating: 3/5
Overall, this movie is a complete family entertainer, which every kid is bound to love, while the adults can sit back and get nostalgic about one of the finest cartoons that shaped their childhood. However, I still believe that Netflix could have done with some more happy moments, as it is Christmas Season!
